Top Ten Tuesday: Books To Either Pile Onto My TBR or Ignore The Hype

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Once hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, it is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s a weekly book feature where a topical list-prompt is posted and readers respond with their top ten for that prompt. Yours truly tends to go over ten, but hey, what can a passionate reader do?

This week’s topic is: Upcoming Releases I’m On the Fence About

This one took a little bit of research, honestly. Because even though I’ve very lucky to read a select number of ARCs, I don’t pay a ton of attention to what is about to be released, i.e., I’m not constantly searching for new releases, but instead, I usually stumble upon them. And I’m usually a pretty good judge of what I think I’ll love and what I won’t.

So, I just searched through the first 300 on Goodreads Can’t Wait Books of 2019 and found a handful of books that aren’t on my “To Read” Shelf yet, but I’ve at least heard about, yet didn’t immediately bombard my TBR with:

Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare: Okay, so I have a complicated relationship with Clare. I own the entire Mortal Instruments series, but only ever read the first three, before life got in the way and I never ended up finishing the series. I did read The Infernal Devices trilogy and really enjoyed it! But now, she just has so much out that I’m not sure if I should try to get back into it or leave it as a lost cause, because I feel like I should finish the first series before continuing to read more within the world?

The Guided Wolves by Roshani Chokski: I’ve seen a lot of hype for this book, but I’m just not sure if I’m interested in it? It might just not be my cup of tea.

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson: Another book I’ve seen a lot of hype about, but I just haven’t fallen in love with the blurb enough to make it an immediate “Want To Read” (even though I think that cover is gorgeous).

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: I’ve heard so much hype (are you sensing a trend here?) around not only this book, but also the authors themselves, thanks to their previous series. But I’ve never read their previous series and I’m not sure if I’m interested in ever giving their first series a try, but this one seems perhaps more up my alley? Maybe? I can’t decide.

Ship of Smoke and Steel by Django Wexler: The only reason this book is on this list is because I’ve never managed to read this author’s other works and I’m not sure if I should jump on his bandwagon with this book or go back further and work my way up. He’s definitely an author I’ve always meant to read, though.

Once and Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy: I haven’t heard too much about this, but I am intrigued by King Arthur set in space. I’m just not sure if I’m 100% sold yet.

The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston: Only two reasons this book is on this list: one, I haven’t read Geekerella and two, I don’t usually like to read a lot of contemporary-type stuff. But this book also seems right up my alley, content wise, and I just adored Poston’s Heart of Iron, so should I give the first book a try?

A rare week when I didn’t hit the promised-ten (or go over it!), but like I said: I’m not following publication news (aside from a few specific authors who I adore and always want to know when their next book is coming out) as closely as many probably do? Still, these are books I could see myself adding to my TBR list, but right now, I have some reservations. Let me know what you think and please share your TTT links down below. I’d love to change some minds if any of your lists have any anticipated reads for me. 😉

Read on!

    1. I’m sorry it didn’t live up to your expectations! :/ But I’m definitely curious to see what you think of both of those books. Hopefully, they are positive, which means I’ll prolly end up reading them, too (I trust your taste in books a lot).

  1. I was, like you, cautious about the hype around the Gilded Wolves, but I picked it up when a bunch of people recommended it. And I realize I’m contributing to the hype, but it’s so good hehe. Only about halfway through and utterly enraptured! ❤
