Top Ten Tuesday: Authors My Wallet Cannot Resist

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Once hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, it is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s a weekly book feature where a topical list-prompt is posted and readers respond with their top ten for that prompt. Yours truly tends to go over ten, but hey, what can a passionate reader do?

This week’s topic is: Auto Buy Authors

This one is a little challenging for me, because I don’t really…buy a lot of books? The library is my go-to because there has hardly been a point in my life where I haven’t lived paycheck to paycheck (plus, I’m just really frugally minded because of that, so I struggle to spend money to begin with). I’m very lucky now, too, that I’m able to get some ARCs, so that helps with my intense desire to own the books from authors I love.

That said, there are a few authors that, even if my budget is tight, even if it is prolly irresponsible to spend the money, I’ll still do it.

Authors Who I Already Own All Their Works:

Nicholas Eames: I mean, this is a no-brainer. If it has Eames’ name on the spine, I won’t read the blurb, I won’t look at the price (okay, that’s a little bit of a fib), I won’t even look at the cover, but you can be damn sure it’ll be on my bookshelf. HIS BOOKS GIVE ME LIFE.

Brent Weeks: I’m trash for getting my heart broken by Weeks’ books, what can I say?

Jim Butcher: I’ve loved all of his series. Harry Dresden melts my heart, Tavi I would die for and I just want to LIVE in the world of the Spire.

Melissa Caruso: Though I suck and still haven’t read her latest, I know I will buy whatever Melissa writes, without question or hesitation.

RJ Barker: I mean, you don’t rip my heart out at the end of a trilogy and make me go numb from feeling too much and caring too much and NOT be on this list.

Authors Who I WANT To Do This For, But Am Behind (And Broke):

Tamora Pierce: I have read almost everything she has written. As the author who helped me truly get into reading fantasy, it’s a goal of mine to own all of her books one day. I have a long way to go, considering I only own like…two?

Amanda Bouchet: I’ve read all of her works and you have a fan for life. I just absolutely adore her romances and definitely want to own them all (since I got all of these from the library).

Tessa Dare: I’ve started to collect some of her more recent works, after the library helped me read most of her other fiction. I definitely hope to collect them–or at least my favorites, if nothing else!

Bec McMaster: SHE WRITES SO FAST. I am so behind and I want to read all of her books, but every time I check them out from the library, I keep having to return them unread. So obviously, I just need to bite the bullet and buy her books, because she got me into steampunk romance and I will be FOREVER grateful.

Brandon Sanderson: I own almost all of his books, but some of the more recent ones, I had to get from the library because I couldn’t afford them. So I hope to continue building my collection (and, ahem, actually reading them) one day!

So, there is the (off-the-top-of-my-head) list of authors who would be auto-buy authors for me, if my finances allowed it! You makes your list? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Definitely filing this Top Ten prompt away for future use, love the idea! Brandon Sanderson and Jim Butcher are 100% on my autobuy, and Caruso and Barker are on my “I’ve bought the books now I just need to actually read them” list.

  2. I have the same with Brandon Sadnerson! I put him on my list, but I’ve only read the mistborn series and the way of kings haha! Luckily that means I still have many more books to go!

  3. Yeah, I had the same trouble with this week’s prompt. It’s good to stretch your brain and try to come up with a response (if possible), though. You did a nice job with your list.

    My TTT.

    1. Thank you very much! You’re right, it was a struggle, because there are plenty authors I ADORE and plan to read all of their work, but ones who I will change my frugal mindset for? That’s a completely different ballpark.

  4. I’m a relatively new Tamora Pierce fan (binge-read all her works in the last 2 years) — but my daughter is a die-hard fan who’s re-read all her books multiple times, and now I finally get why. I love Harry Dresden, and Tavi? Well, I adore those books and characters and have been aching for a re-read. Great list!

    1. I NEED to reread her books so badly! I’ve only read them once. *cries* And I really hope to one them all, one day! I loved reading all of your thoughts on them, it brought back some nostalgia from when I read them! I know, I need to reread Butcher, especially the Codex of Alera series (which, I haven’t even read the sixth book for yet…). Thank you!
