Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Once hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, it is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s a weekly book feature where a topical list-prompt is posted and readers respond with their top ten for that prompt. Yours truly tends to go over ten, but hey, what can a passionate reader do?
This week’s topic is: What Do You Eat/Drink While Reading
Food is one of my favorite things in life, so you’d bet I have my go-to trove of bountiful goodness when it comes to snacks I want to eat while I’m reading or writing. Feast your eyes on my choices below and try not to get too hungry (I failed at that, in case you were wondering).
Chocolate Chip Cookies: My go to and what I always want to eat, whenever I have the option. Homemade is preferred, but I’ll cave and get store bought to make
and eat half of the cookie dough raw like a rebel in a pinch. But hot, warm and straight out of the oven, with a glass of milk, curled up in a blanket with my puppy at my feet, my cats in my lap and the rain pouring outside? Nothing beats it.
Homemade Nachos: This isn’t the nachos you expect. It’s the most lowkey, low maintenance nachos ever. Basically, it’s just melted sharp cheddar cheese shredded from the block on top of a bed of Tostitos tortilla chips and extra mild salsa. When you add all those extra fixings, that’s when it becomes a meal, but when you only have cheese, it’s just a snack (at least, that’s what I tell myself).
Chocolate: 100 Grand Bars, Kit Kats, Dove Chocolates, I am a chocolate connoisseur and I will take any chance to eat it, for any reason. Reading is definitely a great excuse (as if we needed on to begin with, honestly).
Kettle Corn: I FREAKING LOVE KETTLE CORN. Seriously, half the time I’ll ask my boyfriend if he wants to watch a movie just so I have an excuse to make kettle corn popcorn. Which, thinking now, I don’t really need an excuse, honestly. I should just eat it whenever I want, because it’s just that good.
Dad’s Classic Cracker Combo: So, this one is a little weird, but for me, it’s childhood (and delicious), so I love any chance I have to make it. Basically, you take a Ritz Cracker, slab on some honey peanut butter, then add a slice of sharp cheddar cheese and top it all off with a sweet pickle. It sounds gross, but friends, it is AMAZING.
Apples and Peanut Butter: I mean, c’mon, this is a classic. I was also the kid in gradeschool who was known to always eat an apple every single day as my snack, so I think it’s safe to say I like apples.
Cereal: I am trash for cereal. It’s my favorite late night snack after I get off work at 12am, to eat before I go to bed while I’m sneaking in just one more chapter that, inevitably, turns into a up-until-3am-again reading sesh.
Skittles or Starbursts: I used to love both of these as a kid, but hadn’t eaten them in a while and just recently got back into eating them (I know, not great with the whole body-image-issues-thing, but damn if they aren’t addicting and so easy food to eat while binging a book).
Chocolate Covered Pretzels: This is my latest obsession and they are just so good. The perfect blend of chocolatey and salty and crunchy and YUM.
Little Smokies: Covered in honey BBQ sauce after sitting in the crockpop all day to keep these warm, I will eat them all day long and it’s a nice snack to mix it up from my usual routine.
Well, there you have it! My go-to snacks not only for reading and writing, but for life in general, basically. Do you enjoy any of these? Which are your favorites? Let me know in the comments below!
