Hello lovelies!
Part of me feels like I shouldn’t even be doing this tag, because, hello, I have only read 19 books this year and have been in a reading slump throughout most of the year, but you know what, I wanted to, so here we are anyway.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2020
The Burning White by Brent Weeks: Whether it was a combination of the wait and then the culmination of all the books before it or how masterfully it was pulled off, this book has been my favorite that I’ve read so far. It was just incredible and left me in awe.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020
Soulbinder by Sebastian de Castell: It was just such a fun book that brought me back into the series and reminded me why I love the series so much to begin with. And I really needed that fun atmosphere and love and fast-pace to help amidst everything else.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Um, can I just say everything and leave it at that? Ha, no, no, let’s actually pick…a couple, because again, reading slumps have been more my thing in 2020 than you’d think, so I haven’t been staying on top of reading the books I own and my own backlist books, let alone reading the new releases I’m dying to get my hands on.
So, I’d say top three I haven’t read yet, but really want to are: The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood, The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso and Scavange the Stars by Tara Sim
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
So, I feel foolish, because all of these books are sequels that I still need to read the middle book or even the very first book of the series, but nevertheless, I am so confident in loving (or, in Kuang’s case, being destroyed by) these books, that I cannot help but anticipate their releases all the same.
So, again, top three: The Burning Gods by R.F. Kuang, Chaos Vector by Megan O’Keefe and Memory of Souls by Jenn Lyons
Biggest disappointment
Spark City by Robert J. Power. I read this back when I was participating as a judge for SPFBO. Needless to say, I was not a fan, friends.
Biggest surprise
Kalanon’s Rising by Darian Smith. I also read this for SPFBO and I wasn’t really expected to enjoy it as much as I did. But it was really well written and was fun to read, so I’d definitely read more from this author!
Favorite new author (debut or new to you)
L. Penelope! I just finished her Song of Blood and Stone and I enjoyed it quite immensely. I cannot wait to continue reading this series!!
Newest fictional crush
Also from Song of Blood and Stone, my newest fictional crush is definitely Benn. I just love the way he just adores Ella and isn’t afraid to admit it. And, he also doesn’t hesitate to admit his mistakes and support her when she needs him, which was just so refreshing. I loved him.
Newest favorite character
Misaki from The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang. HOLY SHIT, am I such a fan of Misaki. From her strength, to what she has endured, to what she is willing to do for her family and what she believes in. I LOVE LOVE LOVE HER.
Book that made you cry
Nothing, which is surprising, since I’m a crier by nature. But I haven’t cried in a book in a while, so…not sure if that is good or bad?
Book that made you happy
Crownbreaker by Sebastian de Castell. It was a great ending and, just reflecting on the series as a whole, I was just really thankful to have read it, honestly, because the entire series itself made me really, really happy.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
I haven’t bought too many books this year, but I am kinda enarmoed by the cover for An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors by Curtis Craddock.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
I’m just going to link up to my Library Tour that I did a little bit ago, as it shows all the books I own and thus summarizing perfectly all the books I need to read by the end of the year, but totally won’t, because I’m mortal, after all. But damn if I don’t wish I could.
Is this cheating? Yes, perhaps. Does it make it any less true? Not in the slightest. 🙂
Favorite book community member
I’m going to cheat again and not list anyone (yet), as I am currently also working on my nomination post for the Fourth Annual Book Blogger Awards and most of my favorites are going to be there, so…stay tuned next week to find out! 😉
Thanks for reading!

Loved this! I have also been in the most horrible reading slump so I get how you feel.
We definitely aren’t alone in that. I think a lot of people are experiencing a slump!
I can’t believe we’ve read the same number of books so far! 19 by July is a record for my adult reading life 😂 And remember, 2020 is a weird year so don’t be too hard on yourself.
You are doing AMAZING. And thank you. <3
Oh man, I just finished Charmcaster which means Soulbinder is next for me! So excited!! And yes, all of the sequels you are anticipating are on my list as well. Can’t wait for Chaos Vector!
Yay! They honestly just keep getting better and better, though it definitely takes a turn in the second half of the series I wasn’t expecting! Yesss, so many good books coming out!
