Welcome to 2024, dear readers! *insert time flies refrain* Despite knowing time is a construct, I’d really like this construct to work for me in 2024 breaking the streak of awful years (which started in 2019). You know, five years ago. But, in attempts to not start the year off on such a depressing note, let’s instead turn to the meat of the matter. I have a lot of goals and hopes and dreams for the year, including how I show up online. This post outlines all of my content plans for 2024.
Content Plans for 2024
So, 2023 wasn’t the best year, in terms of connecting with the content I usually like to create. This looks like blog posts, writing my books, sending out my newsletter, posting regularly on my Patreon, things like that. Areas where I can be creative and engage with a community that I really love. Instead, 2023 was a year where I dealt with heavy depression, burnout recovery and healing from trauma. Many of these things are absolutely ongoing. But, it’s no surprise that I pulled away from a lot of the creative elements in my life that fill me with joy because I’ve just been in survival mode for so long.
I’d like to change that in 2024. There are areas I need to pull away from (social media) so I can invest in areas I care about (writing, reading and being creative). I’m also learning more and more about who I am and my own mental health and have discovered that my neurodivergence really likes things in boxes, i.e., everything has its place.
So, for my online content, I decided to write up a very clear post of, “want this kind of content, then find me here,” kind of post. That’s this one! Some changes aren’t very noticeable, some are a shift, so I appreciate your patience as I figure it out and fine-tune it in the coming year(s).
Where to Find Me
So, what are my content plans for 2024 and where can you find me to support, engage or witness it? Let’s break it down.
I have a few main platforms, so to speak: this blog, my Patreon, my newsletter and social media. I have plans to use all of them in slightly different ways. Check them all out below for summaries of what to expect and how to get there!
This blog is going to be my hub of everything bookish related. It’s the home of all of my book reviews, discussion posts, lists and more. I’m changing it a bit in that I am going to be removing a lot of the more personal ramblings over to my newsletter. It’ll also still be the home of my editorial services.
- Bringing back monthly wrap-ups (to sum up reading and share other bloggers’ links I enjoyed)
- Removing more personal posts
- Goal is to post twice a week every other week
Patreon is my hub of all things writing related. I made this change last year and I actually really enjoyed it. Here’s where you will find all information about my writing, writing updates, process and more. It’s something I kept up with for the majority of 2023 and have a lot of plans for in 2024. I’d really love to get more people there.
My newsletter is what will be the “most drastic” in terms of changes. It’s something I really did want to keep up with, but quickly fell to the wayside last year, after only a few months. I am bringing it back and have some exciting plans for it. Here is the place where you can find some random ramblings, personal musings, life updates and more! So, if you liked the more personal side of the blog, this is where you want to be!
- Actually plan to write these 💀
- At minimum one monthly check-in, but plan for these to be a bit more sporadic (though, already have a few topics I want to cover)
- Monthly check-ins will be different from the blog’s check-ins, which are reading wrap-ups and blogging link-ups. Here, it’ll be about how the month has gone for me personally.
- Sign up here!
Social media is the other main platform that’ll change. Currently, I have accounts via Instagram, Twitter and BlueSky. While I have some very cherished friendships online, the doomscrolling was destroying me. So, I think I’ll be adopting a mostly updates only model, going forward. It’ll also be slightly marketing/promotion heavy, as it’s the only avenue I have for promoting my freelance editing.
It’s not my favorite solution, but it’s the one that protects my mental health the most. I appreciate your understanding! 🖤
- Will be using it a lot less (and making a list for those who’s content I want to check in on only, instead of doomscrolling)
- Will not be downloading them again on my phone (with exception of Instagram…maybe), so not immediately accessible
- Mostly will be just posting links to what I’m working on in the other spaces (and resharing things I like from others). Again, very updates only.
How to Support Me
As you may have noticed, there is a mixture of free and paid options for support. There will always be something free for anyone who wants to support me in that way. And it always means everything, especially since almost all of my favorite people online, I support in free ways, too.
Though I always hate promoting myself and having paid elements, I can’t lie and say that they don’t help immensely. That debt just doesn’t stop, you know? Worse, ever since Twitter’s downfall, my promotion of the two main ways for paid content (Patreon and editorial work) has plummeted, so they never even got to the point where I could count them as income streams even though I need them. Work of mouth is so key in helping those type of avenues thrive.
So, a little shameless self-promotion here. If you ever want to support me financially, subscribing to my Patreon is the best option. I have various tiers, but all have the same access, with $2 being the lowest price and hopefully very approachable for many different financial realities. If you’re ever looking for an editor, I’d love if you considered hiring me! And, if neither of these are feasible for you, but you still want to help me, sharing either of these platforms on your socials always helps a ton.
(Okay, trying to market myself and survive in a capitalistic hellscape over, thank you.)
As always, I do not expect a ton of people to go and support me on these various platforms (or any of them). But, I thought it would be helpful to have a summary of what I’m hoping for in the new year and what to expect where, so you can engage with me how you want to! I appreciate everyone’s patience and kindness as I sort my shit out and figure out how I want to engage in all the different online spaces.
All that being said, I won’t be surprised (if the past five years are any indication) that all these plans and goals fall to the wayside by the end of the 1st quarter. But, I’m going to give it my best effort. Thanks for being here and supporting me, in any way you chose. It will always, always mean so much to me. I’m rooting for you as we enter this new year. May it be much kinder for us all. 🖤
