You know, I don’t normally do posts like this, but I’ve been seeing quite a few other bloggers post their lists of their most anticipated lists. Particularly for the latter half of the year. I kinda wanted to do it, and then remembered there was no rules saying I couldn’t! So, here’s my own version: my most anticipated SFF reads for the second half of 2023.

Fantasy
Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

So, I absolutely loved M.L. Wang’s The Sword of Kaigen. I saw this on Twitter recently the other day and didn’t even realize she was writing a new book! So immediately to the TBR it went!
Expected Publication: July 2023
He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan

A very hyped sequel that we don’t have to wait too much longer for! If you haven’t read She Who Became the Sun, now is your chance to!
Expected Publication: August 2023
Talonsister by Jen Williams

I haven’t read anything yet by Jen Williams. I KNOW, I am a fool. I’ve been struggling to find copies of her earlier works in bookstores, so I am so excited to have the chance to get a new book in Talonsister!
Expected Publication: September 2023
Science Fiction
Where Peace is Lost by Valerie Valdes

I haven’t read a Valerie Valdes book yet (despite my partner owning all of her previous works). But this cover just looks so damn cool, so you know it’s gotta be on my radar!
Expected Publication: August 2023
The Splinter in the Sky by Kemi Ashing-Giwa

I honestly know nothing about this book or this author (aside that it’s her debut). But the cover is so bloody intriguing and I’ve seen some mutuals hype this up, so I’m intrigued!
Expected Publication: July 2023
The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport by Samit Basu

Honestly, I don’t know much about this book! Only that I’ve seen it hyped everywhere on my social media and the cover looks super intriguing.
Expected Publication: October 2023
Romance
Ice and Ivy by J.D. Evans

Nicole, why are you sharing book four in a series you’ve only read one book in? Well, I loved the first book of this series, Reign and Ruin, so much, that I am so excited more of the series is getting published. Even if I still need to read books two and three.
Expected Publication: August 2023
Claws and Contrivances by Stephanie Burges

Yes, I know I’m cheating, as this book releases the same day this post goes live. But I’m counting July as still the second half of 2023, so sue me. Even though I haven’t read the first book of this series, I do own it and I’m excited to dive in!
Expected Publication: July 2023

So, this was actually much harder to put together than I anticipated? Apparently, a lot of books I’m really excited about don’t release until 2024. π What is time?
But, I’m curious: did any reads you’re looking forward to show on my most anticipated SFF reads list? Any books I’m missing that you think might be right up my alley? I’d love it if you shared with me in the comments. (Or, even better, linked me your own post, if you wrote something similar!)

The Djinn-Bot of Shantiport is definitely one I keep going “I should request an ARC! But I’m cutting back on ARCs….but I want to request one…but I’m cutting back….but what if, as a little treat….”
I am an enabler, so I absolutely think you deserve a little treat. π
I think I remember you liking the Aeronaut’s Windlass, right? Even though it was like… ten years ago and a reread will definitely be needed, the sequel is finally coming!
HA, yes, I did! I can’t believe there is actually a sequel coming out!
I believe Jen Williamsβ Winnowing Flame Trilogy was only published in the UK, which is why you might have a hard time finding it in stores. Hopefully her new book is published in the US as well!
Oh gosh dang it, I bet you’re right. Thank you for telling me that, I didn’t even think of it.
