Hello, lovelies!
As you may be aware, Self-Published Fantasy Month is right around the corner, for the entire month of September! I wasn’t on my game well enough last year to participate, but I am definitely making that happen this year. As such, I wanted to share the books I hope to read! It’s…quite an ambitious list, considering I’ve been reading roughly 1-2 books a month, but by goodness, I am going to try!
All of these have been gifts from the authors (some of which I’m over a year overdue in reading because I’m the worst, um, hi, hello), who I want to thank sincerely again for sending me your work! I’m so excited to dive in!
Priestess of Ishana by Judith Starkston: Honestly, this book just sounds right up my alley. I am so intrigued by a goddess who is the goddess of both love and war and I think the political intrigue and the promise of “mystery, romance and action” that is mentioned in the blurb from Beth Cato has me itching.
Solace Lost by Michael Sliter: Mike and I chat on Twitter all the time and he’s a cool cat, so I already want to read his books because of that. But, add in that this is a grimdark that puts most grimdark to shame and Mike was kind enough to already send me the sequel (plus, Petrik loved it, so you know it’s gotta be good) and friends, I’m sold.
Banebringer by Carol A. Park: Carol is another friend on Twitter who I wholeheartedly want to support by reading her books! I’ve heard nothing but good things (and, rereading the back cover, it seems it could be a potential comp title for my own novel 👀👀) and I’ve been wanting to read her work for ages, so huzzah!
The Ventifact Colossus, The Crosser’s Maze and The Greatwood Portal by Dorian Hart: I’m quite excited to read all of these, ever since I read the review on first novel from Caitlin, who’s opinion I trust without question! Then, I was actually approached by Dorian and hired to edit the 4th book of this series (!!), which I’m beyond excited and honored to do. Which means the reading of the first three books commences!
Dragon’s Price by Daniel Potter: I mean, it has dragons and a really awesome cover. Need I say more?
Quests and Quandaries by Alda Yuan: This novel just sounds so unique and interesting, I’m quite excited to give it a go! And, once more, the author was so kind when they first reached out, so I’m quite excited to give it a read. And, another book for my Year of the Asian challenge (which I’m, like everything else, behind on).
Portents of Chaos by K.C. Julius: An author who has been so patient with me as I’ve continually failed to read her book (yay mood reading and other deadlines). I am making it a POINT to read this novel this month, because I feel I’ll really enjoy it!
What about you? Are you planning to join in this September to celebrate all of the wonderful self-published fantasy that we, quite truly, should be reading all year round? What books are on your list? What books do you think should be on mine? Need recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
Cheers!
Oh I’m so glad you’re working with Dorian, how exciting! I’m really hoping to get to book two during Self-Published Fantasy Month!
I know, I’m super jazzed! I’ll be excited to see your thoughts on book two!
This is such an awesome idea! I want to read more self-published books and directly support authors, so thank you for putting this list together!
Oh, you’re so welcome! If you ever need more recs, I have a TON of self-published authors that I’ve read and LOVED that I didn’t include on this list, so please let me know! <3
Looks like you have a nice pile of fascinating books ready for Self Published Fantasy Reading Month!! Hope you enjoy all of these books 🙂
Thank you! My biggest challenge will be trying to READ all of these books. *facepalm*
Haha happy reading then!
