Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Once hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, it is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s a weekly book feature where a topical list-prompt is posted and readers respond with their top ten for that prompt. Yours truly tends to go over ten, but hey, what can a passionate reader do?
This week’s topic is: Cover Redesigns I Love/Hated
I’m going to mix this week’s prompt up a little bit, mostly because I don’t think I’m aware, without doing a ton of research, of what covers have been redesigned when, despite definitely being a sucker for beautiful covers and judging books off of them way too often. So, instead, I wanted to highlight some of my favorite cover artists–those who’s work I have admired, who got me to buy a book off the shelf without even reading the blurb on the back and who I dream, one day, of having their work on one of my covers, too.
Richard Anderson: There is no doubt that he is my favorite cover artist of all time and, if I ever hold one of my books with his work on the front? I have made it, friends. I have made it and I’ll be crying for the rest of my life. I can’t describe exactly why I love them so much, but ever since I saw his work on Nicholas Eames’ The Band series, I’m now at the point where, if Anderson designed it, I’m prolly going to read that book.
Shawn T. King: I love the wide range of styles that Shawn uses and he has done some of my favorites from the self-published community (included quite a few books I’m still hoping to read here soon). Bold, diverse and stunning, his art is dangerous to be around, because my wallet can’t keep up.
Tom Parker: Parker has done some cool stuff. I know him mostly–no, only–because of his incredible work on RJ Barker’s The Wounded Kingdom series, but now, he’s definitely on my radar. I love the amount of colors he uses and how gorgeous his maps are!
Simon Gionard: After seeing the gorgeous cover redesign (hey, I guess this counts for the actual prompt today, right?) for K.S. Villoso’s The Wolf of Oren-Yaro, I HAD to know who designed in, introducing me to: Simon Gionard. And HOLY SHIT, friends, this artwork!? Like, sign me up for the fan club yesterday, honestly.
Lauren Panepinto: Um, HELLO. Do you see the wide range and depth of her style!? Some of these covers she’s designed, the other directed, but honestly, I have to worship this woman for bringing so much eye candy into my life over the years–not a few of which were the sole reason I was introduced to some incredible books in the first place.
Sam Weber: Did you ever see art that makes you wish you yourself had any artist bone in your body (yet don’t so much, your stick figures look questionable)? Because Sam’s art definitely inspires that jealousy, my GOODNESS.
Thom Tenery: *just bows down at this point, because there are no more WORDS*
