Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Once hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, it is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s a weekly book feature where a topical list-prompt is posted and readers respond with their top ten for that prompt. Yours truly tends to go over ten, but hey, what can a passionate reader do?
This week’s topic is: Books On My Summer TBR
So, I’m actually going to cheat a little bit here and combine two posts I had planned into one because they are basically going to be the same list? You see, I want to try my hand in joining the Iron Tome Readathon taking place in July (because who doesn’t want to try and beat a reading slump with trying their hand at a readathon when they never do those), because I really love Aimal’s blog and this readathon just sounds awesome and so damn creative! Plus, reading the challenges excited me, so I figured, why not? But, obviously, that would mean it would also be my summer reading list, so…yeah, combining posts.
So…yeah! I’m officially signing up to participate in Aimal @ Bookshelves and Paperback’s The Iron Tome Readathon, which you can learn all about at that link–and even sign up yourself, if you fancy! Basically, if I’d like, I can choose a house to align myself with (since this is Game of Thrones inspired) and then pick books that fall under the challenges, if I wish. I’m really happy that I came up with a nice combo for the challenges, both of books that are ARCs but overdue, backlist books and books I don’t own and my library will (hopefully) come in clutch. Looking at this list definitely makes me excited!
First, my house:
House Stark

I love dragons, so part of me wanted to align with House Targaryen, but we all know I’m a Stark to my core, so I gotta represent. And, in honor of the women who I personally love from Game of Thrones, I decided to go a step further and only read books by women for all of the challenges before!
The Reading Challenges (and my books):
Castle Black: Read The Group Book
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang: I have been wanting to read this book for ages, so I’m pretty stoked to finally be checking it out, especially since it’s the group read for this readathon!
Winterfell: A Book Set In a Cold Environment
The Song of All by Tina LeCount Myers: I was really lucky to receive this book as part of a box book from Wunderking PR and I am definitely intrigued to read it, because it just sounds fascinating!
King’s Landing: Plot Involving Royalty, Politics or Government
City of Lies by Sam Hawke: Another book that is severely overdue, but I adore Sam and talking with her online, so I really need to make reading her book a priority.
Sunspear: Inspired by a Non-Western Setting
Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri: After seeing the cover for Realm of Ash, I knew I needed to stop letting this overdue ARC stay so overdue!!
Oldtown: Involves an Institution of Knowledge/Training
Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb: I haven’t read anything of Hobb yet (I know, I KNOW) and I’m like 95% sure that once I read this book, I am just going to binge everything that Hobb has ever written, so should probably save this one for last, yeah?
Valyria: About or Involving Dragons
His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik: Another author who I am way overdue for having not read her series and I have a feeling I’ll probably binge through, maybe?
Asshai: Dark/Grimdark or Urban Fantasy
The Court of Broken Knives by Anna Smith Spark: If I’m going to read Grimdark, I can’t do anything but read by Queen.
I’m really excited to try this out! I’ve never really done readathons and I’m not very good at it (especially since I still haven’t read ANY books towards my Year of the Asian readathon I signed up for back in January), but I think it should be a blast. Let me know what you think of my choices and if you plan on participating, too!
Read on!
Enjoy!

I’m dying to read The Poppy War as well! I can’t believe I missed out on it. Hope you love it😁
I hope so, too! Just waiting for it to come in from the library!
The more I hear about the Temeraire series, the more I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it. HE READS TO HIS DRAGON. I’m also planning on reading The Poppy War this month, so we can compare notes!
Well, I’m about halfway done with the book and HOLY SHIT IT IS SO GOOD?! I am really enjoying it. EEP, well once I get it from the library, I will definitely have to make sure I read it so we can chat about it!
I just started The Poppy War yesterday, see you on the other side!
*checks library status and then continues to wait sorta patiently*
The Song of All sounds like such a good read.
My TTT.
I am very excited to read it!!
*Scrolls through*
*Sees Assassin’s Apprentice*
*Invents a portal and a magical people-finding device and goes to camp outside your window with a sign that says ‘DID YOU READ IT YET, NICOLE???'”
Okay welp that turned creepy. 😅 But seriously, I’m SO EXCITED you’re going to be reading it!!! I always get a little anxious whenever I see someone trying the series because I’m like, “Oh no, what if they think it’s just ‘meh.’ Or what if they hate it??” Because I got so much out of it emotionally and I want everyone else to experience the same feeling.
So I hope you love it! But if you don’t, that’s okay too! 😀
Hahahaha, honestly, I am going to read it this month, I PROMISE.
(Not creepy at all, I cracked up.)
Gosh, I feel that way EVERY time I recommend a series or a book to someone which I loved. But I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Hobb’s work from so many readers I respect, I will be positively SHOCKED if I don’t love it.
