Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Once hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, it is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s a weekly book feature where a topical list-prompt is posted and readers respond with their top ten for that prompt. Yours truly tends to go over ten, but hey, what can a passionate reader do?
This week’s topic is: Books On My Spring TBR List
Since we’re already almost done with March (what.), I think I’ll consider spring as April and May (if only it would last that long, grumbles the American who lives in a state where we have all four seasons in one day on the regular). I usually read one book a week, but I’d really like to aim for two…though considering how long my list is below, it looks like I might need to be even more ambitious than that.
ARCs:
Seven Shades in Black by Sam Sykes: I have followed Sykes on Twitter for what seems like ages, but I’ve never actually read anything he’s written (though I’ve always meant to). When Orbit was kind enough to send me a copy of this book, I knew I couldn’t pass it up (even if I secretly think that cover is abysmal).
Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by K.J. Parker: I actually started reading a book by Parker when I was…middle school or high school, I think, but ended up never finishing it, because I had to turn it back into the library
A Time of Dread by John Gwynne: Another author who I’ve always meant to read, but haven’t had a chance to (I suck, I know, hold your sticks and stones). I’m very thankful to Orbit for sending a copy my way, so I could finally get a taste of Gwynne and see what all the hype is about!
The Unbound Empire by Melissa Caruso: You better be sure I’m here to find out what happens to these characters!!!!! I’d loved to reread the first two books before I slip into this one, but I’m not sure if I’ll have time (or the patience) before devouring the final book in this trilogy.
SPFBO Books:
As I believe most people know, I was a last-minute-addition judge for the SPFBO contest, which is entering it’s final months! I am right on schedule to finish all the finalists books with the blog I’m partnered with a month before they are due (by the end of May) and, by the time April starts, these are the last three I have slotted to read. I’m excited to see how they fare in terms of my own personal opinion and reading tastes!
Ruthless Magic by Megan Crewe
Sworn to the Night by Craig Schaefer
Aching God by Mike Shel
Books For Fun:
The Long Way to A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers: I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book and I was lucky enough to get it for Christmas last year! As I’m sure you can tell from this post, I’m trying to read a lot of the sci-fi that’s currently on my shelves before I think a romance binge is happening, and this is definitely on that list, because I honestly can’t believe I haven’t read this yet.
There Before the Chaos by K.B. Wagers: An ARC that is now sorely overdue, but trust me when I say that my excitement for reading it hasn’t lessened any!
Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky: Another overdue ARC that I’m quite curious about, especially since I’ve heard nothing but praise from many bloggers whom I respect.
A Bad Deal for The Whole Galaxy by Alex White:
Planetside by Michael Mammay: I’ve been curious about this book ever since it was announced and finally bought it a few months after it came out, because I’m seriously curious about it. Of course, still haven’t read it yet, but hopefully now it will happen!
Outsiders by Jay Posey: I’ve had this book for years. YEARS. Why haven’t I read it? Why am I the way that I am?
The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley: Honestly, I know nothing about this book. I just loved the cover, so I bought it, and now I hope I’ll fall in love with it. *shrugs*
So, that’s…*does quick maths*…14 books over the span of two months. That’s doable, right? *she asks, after barely reading two books in March*
Yeah…
Totally doable…
Read on!
Finished Seven Blades a little while ago… Sal is a great character! Enjoy!
Oooh, now I’m even more excited!
You have a nice list. I see The Outsiders on your list. I really enjoyed that one.
I’m glad to hear that! That makes me even more excited to read it!
Heh, I have similar thoughts about March.
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is something I’d like to read soon as well.
My Top Ten Tuesday post.
I hope we both actually end up reading it here pretty soon! 😀
Read The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet recently and really enjoyed it. I hope you do, too!
Thank you, I have high hopes for it!
Whoa these all look so good!! * adds lots of them to my own huge TBR list… *
If you end up reading any of them, I’d love to hear what you think! <3
I need to read the Becky Chambers book (and the rest of the trilogy, if I like the first one). These look like a great selection — I love seeing all the SF books on your list!
My TTT
I am trying to read more SF books, so I think I have a pretty solid batch going so far. 😀
Sworn To The Night has a gorgeous cover! I hope you enjoy all of these.
Tina @ As Told By Tina
I hope so, too! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Great list! I’m dying to read Children of Time, I just need more hours in the day.😁
I know, right!? And I have just had hardly *any* time to read recently and I’m just like…UGH.
I like this list. A few are even on mine 😏
You have good taste, my friend. 😉
You can do it! And Orbit represent, lol! Lots of their books I’m looking forward to this spring as well.
Seriously, I could just give my soul to Orbit, because I read almost everything they publish and love it.
I feel like my TBR is going to grow a lot because of this post. Most of those books look like exactly the sort of thing I like to read!
YAY! (But also, I’m sorry. :P) I can’t wait to hear what you think, if you end up deciding to read any of these!
Oh this is a great, ambitious list, I hope you’ll get to read a lot of these! I haven’t read any of these books, but I’ve heard SO much about The Long Way to A Small, Angry Planet, I hope you will love it 🙂
Happy reading, Nicole! <3
Thank you so much! I’m already starting on a negative foot, as I keep checking out books from the library that are…not on this list. 😛 But I hope you read some good books here soon, too! <3
