Originally hosted by Breaking the Spine, Waiting on Wednesday has now linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings and it’s exactly as it sounds: we post about books that haven’t been published yet, but we’re salivating by the time the publication date hits.
This week, the book that snuck up on my radar but now I can’t get it off and I just want to read it immediately is:
The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan
Publication Date: January 17th, 2019
A group of three young thieves are pulled into a centuries old magical war between ancient beings, mages, and humanity in this wildly original debut epic fantasy.
The city has always been. The city must finally end.
When three thieves – an orphan, a ghoul, and a cursed man – are betrayed by the master of the thieves guild, their quest for revenge uncovers dark truths about their city and exposes a dangerous conspiracy, the seeds of which were sown long before they were born. Cari is a drifter whose past and future are darker than she can know.
Rat is a Ghoul, whose people haunt the city’s underworld.
Spar is a Stone Man, subject to a terrible disease that is slowly petrifying his flesh.
Chance has brought them together, but their friendship could be all that stands in the way of total armageddon.
Honestly, it’s the cover that truly caught my eye. The art style reminded me of Kings of the Wyld (it might even be the same artist? I honestly have no idea and can’t figure it out online, so if it is, would someone mind letting me know so I can credit them?) but I can’t get enough of that grunge mixed in with the blue color scheme. So you can image how happy I was when I read the blurb and it sounded just as wonderful as this cover suggests. So much so, now it’s one of my most anticipated reads of 2019.
